Affiliate Disclosure
Last updated: January 2025
FTC Disclosure
R3 participates in various affiliate marketing programs. This means that if you click on certain links on our website and make a purchase, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.
We are disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."
Our Commitment to Independence
While we earn commissions through affiliate links, we maintain strict editorial independence:
- Research-first: We NEVER let commission rates influence our reviews or recommendations
- Unbiased scoring: Products are rated solely on safety, efficacy, and value—not affiliate availability
- Transparent methodology: Our 1,000+ data point scoring system is public and backed by PubMed/EWG citations
- No sponsored content: We never accept payments from brands to review their products
- Honest recommendations: If a product scores poorly, we'll say so—even if it means losing a commission
Our mission is to provide the most honest, research-backed product recommendations for conscious families. Affiliate commissions help us keep the lights on, but they will NEVER compromise our integrity.
Affiliate Programs We Participate In
R3 currently participates in affiliate programs with the following networks and retailers:
- Amazon Associates: We earn a commission when you click our Amazon links and make a qualifying purchase
- Thrive Market: We may earn a commission on Thrive Market memberships and purchases
- Target Affiliate Program: We earn a commission on qualifying Target purchases
- Grove Collaborative: We may earn a commission on Grove referrals and purchases
- Direct brand partnerships: Select brands we've vetted and approved for affiliate relationships
We only partner with retailers and networks that allow us to maintain editorial independence. We refuse partnerships that require us to promote specific products or suppress negative reviews.
How Affiliate Links Work
When you click an affiliate link on R3:
- You're redirected to the retailer's website (e.g., Amazon, Target)
- A cookie is stored in your browser tracking the referral
- If you make a purchase within the cookie window (typically 24-90 days), we earn a small commission
- You pay the same price as if you went directly to the retailer
The commission percentage varies by retailer and product category, typically ranging from 3-20% of the purchase price.
When We Don't Use Affiliate Links
There are cases where we recommend products without affiliate links:
- No affiliate program exists for the product or retailer
- The affiliate program requires editorial compromises we won't make
- The product is sold exclusively through channels we haven't vetted
In these cases, we still provide the same rigorous research and honest recommendations—because our mission is to help families make safer choices, not maximize commissions.
Price Comparisons
When we show "Where to Buy" options for a product, we provide links to multiple retailers (both affiliate and non-affiliate). We encourage you to compare prices across all options to find the best deal—even if that means clicking a non-affiliate link.
Questions About Affiliate Relationships
We believe in radical transparency. If you have questions about:
- Whether a specific link is an affiliate link
- How much we earn from a particular partnership
- Why we recommended one product over another
- Our editorial policies and safeguards
Please email us at affiliates@r3recs.com. We're happy to provide detailed answers.
Your Trust Is Everything
R3 was founded to solve a frustrating problem: the lack of trustworthy, unbiased product research for conscious families. We've seen too many "review" sites that are just thinly-veiled affiliate farms, recommending whatever product pays the highest commission.
We're building something different. Yes, we use affiliate links to sustain our business. But our primary revenue comes from Premium subscriptions—meaning our incentive is to provide research so valuable that you're willing to pay for it, not to trick you into clicking links.
If you ever feel we've compromised our integrity for a commission, please call us out. Your trust is worth more to us than any affiliate payment.
Changes to This Disclosure
We may update this Affiliate Disclosure as we add new partnerships or refine our policies. We'll post changes here and update the "Last Updated" date. Material changes will be announced via email to Premium subscribers.
